About his Journey

Dr. Eric Farr is an internationally recognized academic leader, award-winning educator, and active researcher with more than 20 years of senior leadership in architectural education and over 25 years of high-profile professional practice. His career is defined by institutional transformation, program growth, accreditation leadership, and the strategic integration of emerging technologies into architectural curricula and research.

Dr. Farr currently serves as Director of Graduate Studies (DGS) in the School of Architecture at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, where he provides comprehensive oversight of graduate programs, accreditation compliance, assessment frameworks, and student progression. In this role, he serves as the primary liaison to the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), leading Annual Reports and ensuring full compliance across accredited programs. He also coordinates program-wide studio assessment rubrics and graduate advising across multiple on-campus and online cohorts.

His institutional service includes college-level leadership on the PhD Task Force and the establishment of the institution’s first multidisciplinary AI Major, contributing to doctoral program strategy, interdisciplinary curriculum planning, and forward-looking academic initiatives. He also serves as a University Board Member of the Design Institute of San Diego (2023–present), supporting strategic academic–industry collaboration and design innovation.

Previously, Dr. Farr served as Full Professor of Architecture and Design at the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom, a British Ivy League institution, and as Chair of the PhD Committee and Deputy for Branding and Marketing at the University of Liverpool–XJTLU. He later served as Senior Associate Professor at Xi’an Jiaotong–Liverpool University (XJTLU), China, where he was also Director of the Digital Design and Fabrication Lab. He was an Invited Fellow Researcher at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), further strengthening his international research leadership profile.
